“We are rapidly approaching an era when internet content is made by AI, shared on social media by bots, and boosted by even more bots to game the algorithm”
People are just beginning to perceive that the internet is fake.
It's getting to be a little like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?/Blade Runner, never really knowing what and who is an actual person and what is a machine.
Last year I read the NYRB collection of Nietzsche's lectures on German education—published provocatively if inaccurately as _Anti-Education_—and I too was struck by how fretful Nietzsche was over the danger of culture getting dumbed down. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the book, as it's probably most interesting as a glimpse of what Nietzsche thought would go over well as a popular lecture, but it makes an interesting companion to Untimely Meditations…
I was unaware that collection had been released. Nietzsche was far more popular on the left a few decades ago. While his elitism is probably his worst quality, I am completely on board with the opposition to dumbing things down. That's the connection between Adorno and Nietzsche I was hoping to highlight. It is better to err on the side of giving the audience a little credit and, at least to me, it shows way more disdain for your own readers to unilaterally assume that they need to be talked down to. Being patronizing is usually worse than confusing people, at least in my experience.
No one wants to hear this but: I cannot be the only person aghast at the lefts 20 year project to pretend the terrible damage done by internet porno to society and culture didn't happen, and no one is seriously pissed off about it. The denial on this is worse then on "Trans". Don't like human trafficking, out of control kids, anxious teens, apathetic and hateful men, lonely women, the attention economy....why did we let this get so out of control? Non-stop propaganda. Deny, rationalize and Justify. This issue WILL blow up at some point. It has to.

"In the mountains, the swiftest way to travel is from peak to peak; but for that, one must have long legs."
Adorno/Horkh.'s been on my shelf for a while now, and I should really get to it…
